Some have good trends, some bad

SALT LAKE CITY — Every week I update our Monday to Monday numbers for COVID-19 cases county by county.

You can see that some counties have seen dramatic reductions in weekly new cases.

Some have been up and down and some seem to be up and up.

Remember each number represents the new cases for a week and not a running total:

Another number we haven't watched closely gives us a good idea of how close the state is to achieving it's goal of reducing the number of cases.

As time goes on, it will be important to pay attention to the estimated number of active cases.

It's the simple idea that we pay attention to the people who are sick right now.

We'll know if the state is on the right track when we have fewer sick people for weeks at a time.

The chart here shows we've only seen the number drop three times, none in a row.
