SALT LAKE CITY — A man who was hit by a car while trying to cross State St. in Salt Lake City last month has died.
The hit-and-run happened on State St. around 10:30 p.m. on January 30.
Police said the victim, 50-year-old Matthew Burr, was struck by a southbound white Nissan hatchback while crossing near Coatsville Ave.
The car that struck Burr was a white Nissan hatchback.
After the hit-and-run incident, the vehicle could be seen on surveillance camera footage taken in a parking lot at the nearby OC Tanner complex.
Officers located the Nissan the day after the hit-and-run incident and have been working on collecting DNA evidence from the vehicle. The driver is still unknown, but police have urged that person to come forward.
"We think that there are people out there that know who that driver is and could actually help us with this investigation," said Det. Greg Wilking, SLCPD. "We're going to get to the bottom of it because somebody lost their life and somebody fled that accident scene and we're going to hold somebody accountable for that."
Anyone with information that could assist SLCPD in identifying the driver in this hit-and-run is urged to call 801-799-3000.
