SALT LAKE CITY — A new bill introduced in the Utah State Legislature would set some limits on convicted sex offenders' contacts with anyone under 18.

House Bill 344, sponsored by Rep. Val Potter, R-North Logan, would restrict sex offenders from taking any employment where they work with someone under 18; allow minors into their home (with an exception for an immediate family member with court approval); or serve as a coach or trainer for anyone under 17.

Violation of the proposed legislation would be a class A misdemeanor, which carries a potential jail sentence.
