Waterford.org is part of the Promise Partnership, a group of non-profit organizations, community leaders and school districts who want children to thrive.

In June they informally surveyed about 200 parents of three, four and five-year-old children to see how they're feeling about back to school.

More than one-third of parents hadn't registered their child for preschool yet and eight percent hadn't enrolled in kindergarten yet.

Kim Fischer, National Spokesperson for Waterford.org says the survey shows that parents are hesitant because they're worried about their child's health, and the situation feels so uncertain - they're just figuring it out day-by-day.

But Fischer says it's important to contact your school and register your children for pre-k and kindergarten regardless of what happens in the fall.

You can also sign up your four-year-old for Waterford UPSTART, a free learning program that they do at home. It provides four-year-old children access to the highest form of academic support in their early education through personalized family education and coaching. A new computer and internet will be provided, if needed.

The average Waterford UPSTART graduate enters kindergarten reading at nearly a first-grade level and maintains their gains for years to come.
