SALT LAKE CITY — It’s “Work for us Wednesday.”

Each week, FOX 13 shares job openings to help Utahns get back to work if they’ve lost jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There’s a big hiring push at Salt Lake’s ARUP Laboratories to keep up with the demand for COVID-19 testing.

Since the pandemic, ARUP has hired about 570 people, and is looking to fill 200 positions -- not only in their lab, but various departments as well.

The healthcare company says its primary focus is caring for patients.

ARUP has frontline workers who work with infectious disease specimens. When people get their blood drawn, ARUP employees are the ones testing it.

Human Resource managers say they’re looking for people who are detail-oriented and have strong communication skills.

Not all positions require college degrees and they have in-house training as well as tuition reimbursements for some positions.

“About 50% of our positions are covid-related and they could be anywhere from medical laboratory scientists or technologist to specimen processing which is the intake of the specimens.” said Misty Smith, ARUP’s talent acquisition manager. “SR for example which is our specimen processing, requires a high school diploma and typing 30 words per minute because it’s very data entry focused. Although we do focus right now and very heavily on the laboratory, we have business positions, IT positions, sales positions, support and administrative positions as well.

The lab is open 365 days a year, 24/7 so there are a variety of shifts to choose from.

Located at the University of Utah Research Park, this could be a good job for college students, looking for part time work while going to school.
