A construction worker fell into a gravel pit with the bulldozer he was operating on Monday.

The accident happened a little after 11 a.m. at the Altaview Concrete gravel pit at 500 S. 6800 W. in West Valley.

“We had a gentlemen who was working on one of the bulldozers over here and actually got too close to the edge somehow and went down. [He] fell about 40 feet.  The bulldozer rolled, it ejected him, and some of the equipment landed on top of him,” said Bob Fitzgerald, with West Valley Fire Department.

The 50-year-old victim was transported by air to a trauma center, and he was in critical condition when he left the site according to Fitzgerald.

Officials continue to investigate the scene, looking for issues that may have contribute to the accident.
