A new program starts Tuesday that is expected to help travelers get through security lines and checkpoints at the Salt Lake City International Airport easier and faster.

Passengers who sign up for the Transportation Security Adminstration (TSA) Pre-Check Program will have to give some personal information, so they can get pre-screened against the terrorist database.  If they are determined to be low-risk passengers, they will get to use the expedited line at the airport.

“It was easy, went right through.  They said just keep everything in your pockets and go on. So that’s a bonus,” said Jeff Hunsaker, a frequent flyer.

Those is the slower lands say it feels a little like skipping in line, but it’s supposed to make all the lines go faster.

“And you notice that everyone is going through physical screening,” said Robin Kane, TSA administrator.  “And there is no guarantee that you are not going to get another lane, or the A.I.T. or some other type of technology or capability that we have as you go through the screening process.”

TSA will still preform random security checks and there’s no guarantee that a TSA Pre-Check passenger will get through more quickly.

Salt Lake International is one of the 28 major U.S. airports to join the program.
