The Utah House passes a bill on Wednesday that requires parent consent for minors who want to use tanning beds.
Parents will be asked to sign a consent form each time a minor uses a tanning device. Facilities that provide tanning services also need to post warning signs on the risks of tanning.
"Parents have a right to know when their kids are taking on a know carcinogen," said Rep. Brian Wilson, R-Kaysville. "And parents we've talked to want to know when their kids are in fact going tanning. This bill gives parents the ultimate ability to be in charge of when and how much their children tan."
Sen. Pat Jones, a sponsor of the bill, said the new provisions would help cut down on the rising skin cancer rate in Utah.
The bill is headed back to the senate for more discussion. Since in was introduced in January, the bill has been changed five times.
