Update: Adam Goodsell passed away on Sunday, March 18.

Original: A driver lost control of his car in Sardine Canyon with some precious cargo inside.

Police said Adam Goodsell’s brakes went out and his accelerator got stuck Friday afternoon, causing his Land Rover to crash along SR-89 in Sardine Canyon.

Goodsell is in the hospital where he is being treated for serious brain injuries.

He was able to place a 911 call just before the crash.

“I’m driving down Sardine Canyon.  My brakes went out. My gas pedal is stuck,” said Goodsell to the dispatcher.

Among the debris from inside the car that flew everywhere, Goodsell had an engagement ring intended for his girlfriend.  He was going to propose on Friday night.

Family members alerted police of the ring and after caring for Goodsell, rescuers were able to find it in a gift bag near the wrecked Land Rover.

Now his fiance, Goldie Chaney, is wearing it, even though Goodsell didn’t get to get down on one knee.
