Students at Polk Elementary in Ogden were challenged to raise $1,000 so they could participate in a read-a-thon as part of the Road to Success Program.
If the students met that goal, faculty promised to get wacky; six teachers dyed their hair purple, the cooks baked chocolate cake for all the kids and a custodian volunteered to be duct taped to a wall to celebrate the kids reaching their goal.
Students raised $1,953 and received books and other prizes for their success.
The read-a-thon is part of a literacy effort for the school.
