Study: Changes to recess may help reduce bullying

Posted

Bullying has been a big problem in U.S. schools, but recent study shows new changes to recess program have helped reduce bullying.

Jill Vialet, the founder of Playworks spoke with Good Day Utah on Tuesday about her program.

"The way our program works is that we send these really well trained young adults out into the schools and they are there modelling behaviors around inclusion, empathy, teamwork, leadership, and in some ways I think we inoculate kids against bullying," said Vialet.  "We create an environment where the need to bullying, the desire to bully, the success of bullying, it just doesn't work as well."
