Rock climber injured in fall at American Fork Canyon

Posted

A rock climber sustained a head injury Monday when he fell while climbing at American Fork Canyon.

The victim, a man in his twenties, was climbing with a Boy Scout group at the Grey Cliffs area. He was going over an overhang and lost his grip. His belayer was caught off guard and burned his hands while trying to stop the rope. The climber fell about 40-50 feet and hit his head on a rock.

He was wearing a helmet and witnesses say that probably saved his life. A medical helicopter was dispatched to transport the man to an area hospital for treatment of his injury.

Both the victim and the belayer were described as experienced rock climbers.
