PLEASANT GROVE, Utah -- It is one of the driest Junes on record and Utah County cities are closely monitoring a water supply that is slowly dwindling.
Utah County leaders are telling their residents to really cut back on water use, especially when it comes to irrigation and watering lawns and gardens.
“We're real concerned about the levels of the reservoir and keeping water available for the city residents and for fire protection,” said Lehi City Water Superintendent Lee Barnes.
Barnes says the dry condition have made residents use more secondary water than they have in previous years and it is taking its toll.
"We've stored as much as we can, but with the use we're seeing right now we're not able to recoup at certain times during the day or night -- it's just a constant use on us,” says Barnes.
In Pleasant Grove they have developed a strategy where odd house numbers water on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while even numbers water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Sundays are off limits.
The city says for the most part, residents are cooperating. They say everyone needs to do their part to keep reserves from getting too low.
