WEST VALLEY CITY —  Natural gas supplier Questar received a call Monday afternoon about a contractor who hit a gas line on the 4300 South block near 6000 West.

Questar responded and had the gas shut off to the damaged section of pipe by 3:18 p.m., securing the line, according to Questar spokesman Darren Shepherd. Shepherd says there were 15 homes affected by the damage, so to keep those homes operating, Questar connected them to a natural gas vehicle.

The pipe is expected to be repaired by 5:30 p.m.

The fire department initially did evacuations, but people were allowed to return to their homes once Questar secured the line
