Council issues fireworks safety reminder

Posted

Utahns will once again be able to light Fireworks for several days in celebration of Pioneer Day next week. However, many areas still have a ban on them.

The Utah Safety Council is asking residents to check with your local fire department and city for fireworks restrictions before you light any fireworks.

Officials are also urging people to avoid setting off their own home fireworks and instead going to a public display.

"This year, particularly with the hazards, not only a safety hazard this year in terms of personal injury but a it's also a hazard with regard to the probability of fires because of the sustained period of dry weather that we've had here in the state," said Robert Parenti, Utah Safety Council president.

The Safety Council also issued a reminder to never let young children light fireworks.

Light fireworks outdoors in a clear area away from onlookers, houses, cars and flammable material.
