SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah’s medical staff had a special guest Monday when Hogle Zoo’s 22-year-old orangutan, Eli, got a CT scan after being surgically treated for breast cancer.
Eli was brought in for a follow-up after his surgery in May and June. They say the ape was sedated for 30 minutes while technicians performed the scan.
The results of the scan were not released, but they say Eli has had abnormal lymph nodes.
Eli gained a bit of local fame after correctly picking the winner of the Super Bowl the last five years.
The animal was born at the Topeka Zoo and has been living at Hogle since 2004.
Eli is the father of 7-year-old Acara, who lives at Hogle with his mother, Eve.
