RIVERTON, Utah - A Riverton teacher first decided she would become a first grade teacher when she was in first grade. Now, she's being honored for 50 years of service.
Linda Warwood has taught first grade at Riverton Elementary for the last 50 years. On Friday, a special assembly was held in her honor. Bagpipes played as colleagues, students, former students and Warwood's family members praised her dedication in the classroom.
Warwood has taught generations of students to read and do arithmetic over the last five decades, but students remember her most for her kindness and genuine concern for everyone.
"She was strict but in a respectful way and she taught us respect," said one former student.
Warwood's passion for teaching doesn't seem to be wearing off after 50 years. She has no immediate plans to retire.
