The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said an officer was shot during SWAT training Friday afternoon and currently is in stable condition.

The sheriff’s office public information officer said at 12:30 p.m. a sheriff was in SWAT training at Dock Flat camp just above Mantua when the incident occurred.  He said the officer swung his AR-15 over his shoulder when the assault rifle accidentally discharged, shooting him in the leg.

SWAT members took the wounded officer to Brigham City Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

They say the injured officer is 42 years old and has been working for law enforcement in Box Elder County for seven years.
