The police force of a small New Mexico town has only one certified member, a drug-sniffing dog, according to the AP.

The police chief stepped down Wednesday after new stories reported he was not allowed to carry a gun. An attorney for the town said his inability to carry a gun didn’t necessarily put the police chief at risk, reports the AP.

The town, Vaughn, is home to about 450 people and it east of Albuquerque, according to the AP.

The Guadalupe County Sheriff said his department is helping patrol Vaughn while the matter is addressed.
