SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah families who have children with autism may apply to receive free treatment starting Monday morning.
It is part of a new pilot program from the Utah Department of Health.
There are about 250 slots open for children to get the free treatment funded by Medicaid. However, applicants do not need to be on Medicaid to apply.
If more children apply than there are openings, applicants will be selected through a lottery-based system.
To be eligible, the child must be clinically diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder, be a U.S. citizen and a resident of Utah. They have to have a birth date between April 1, 2007 and October 31, 2010.
Applicants can not have assets, like a bank account or trust fund, in excess of $2,000.
