People who need to park in downtown Salt Lake City can now use their cellphones to pay for their parking spaces.
Since spring 2012, Salt Lake City has replaced coin-operated meters with the modern pay stations that correspond to numbered parking spots.
Patrons can pay for their parking spaces via text message or scan a bar code that works with a smartphone app.
The system allows users to add money to extend their time without going back to a pay station.
