SALT LAKE CITY – The Airport TRAX line is scheduled to open on April 14. Construction on the line is almost complete and testing is expected to start by the beginning of November.

The line travels from downtown Salt Lake City along North Temple through the west side of Salt Lake City towards the Salt Lake International Airport.

There will be six new stations, with approximate addresses at 500 West, 800 West, 11 West near the Utah State Fairgrounds, 1500 West, 1950 West and next to Terminal 1 of the airport.

Testing along the line will begin with just one train on Oct. 30. It will begin at a slow speed, working up to full-speed by Nov. 9. Multiple trains will begin running the next week. Testing will generally run Monday through Thursday during regular business hours.

Flaggers will be in place along the test route until all signals, lights and crossings have been properly tested and certified for safe use.

UTA says the 6-mile extension, which began in late 2008, is opening far ahead of schedule.
