SALT LAKE CITY – The attorney for Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Lisa Steed confirmed to FOX 13 that the UHP is trying to fire her.
Steed has been in the spotlight since a memo leaked in mid-October suggesting she made false DUI arrests. The UHP is currently facing a lawsuit from one man who says Steed arrested him unfairly.
Steed’s attorney says she received a letter from UHP about a week ago indicating their intent to terminate her. She will be meeting with the Commissioner of Public Safety in the next week or so about her status.
“It’s been hard on her. She’s a hardworking police officer. She takes her job very seriously,” her attorney Greg Skordas said. “This is going to affect her career forever. This has been very difficult for her but she’s dedicated…We don’t think that this case warrants suspension or termination of her job.”
Skordas says Steed will weigh her options to appeal and that they would like to avoid going to court.
