WEST VALLEY CITY — Children who often own only the clothes on their back got a great gift on Wednesday at Monroe Elementary School.
Five thousand Utah elementary school students got new clothes as part of the Assistance League of Salt Lake City’s Operation School Bell program.
The children received a new coat, a hooded sweatshirt, a pair of jeans, a shirt, underwear, socks and shoes.
“I had a student say that the clothes that they had on are the only clothes they had,” said a Monroe Elementary teacher.
Operation School Bell has outfitted more than 85,000 children since 1976.
