PROVO, Utah – The Recycling Coalition of Utah held a conference on Thursday to talk about sustainable practices for retailers, manufacturers, communities and homeowners.
Americans represent 5 percent of the world’s population but recycling experts say we produce about 30 percent of the world’s garbage. The RCU says Americans throw away enough garbage to fill 63,000 garbage trucks every day.
“I think even in the state of Utah, we’re a type of people who like to wear things out. Recycling is a big part of that. There’s no reason to create new things when we can take old stuff and reuse it to make new products,” said Brad Mertz.
Mertz says there are all kinds of products made from recycled materials and that it’s important to seek them out.
