MURRAY, Utah – A 16-year-old girl is hanging up a black dress she wore every day in November for a good cause.
Cottonwood High junior Madi Palmer wore the dress and a button saying, “Ask me about my dress,” in an effort to raise awareness about human trafficking.
She says her campaign helped share information about the problem with her classmates; human trafficking is the second largest organized crime in the U.S. and not enough is being done to stop it.
“Awareness breeds prevention because we’re really the kids who are at risk for this, so if we can be aware of it and know the signs of it then it’s not going to happen to us,” Palmer said.
Palmer hopes her efforts will help pass a bill in the state legislature that will toughen human trafficking laws.
