PROVO – A 28-year-old Provo man was jailed Friday evening after police say he stabbed a neighbor with a folding pocket knife.

According to Provo Police, officers responded to an apartment complex at 80 South 900 East at about 5:45 p.m. after the victim called 911. The suspect, Tyson Ellis, was arrested without incident.

Police say the two men had been involved in an argument earlier in the day.

“When the victim and Tyson later saw one another in the breezeway of the apartment complex the argument escalated into a physical confrontation,” said Provo Police Sgt. Brandon Post. “During the fight, Tyson allegedly stabbed the victim in the left chest/ribcage area, puncturing his left lung.”

The 21-year-old victim was hospitalized in stable condition Saturday.

Post said Ellis also sustained a cut on his hand that required stitches.

Ellis was booked into the Utah County Jail for aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
