PROVO, Utah – Politicians and project managers held a ribbon cutting for the I-15 CORE project in Utah County on Saturday.

The 35-month process widened the freeway by two lanes and came in $260 million under budget.

“This is an interstate, but there’s no federal money on this project. The taxpayers of the state of Utah are helping us and are paying for this project,” said Utah House Speaker Becky Lockhart.

UDOT says this is the fastest-built billion dollar highway project in the U.S. It’s expected to carry 130,000 cars a day.
