UTAH COUNTY -- Utah County has a new attraction featuring roller skates, a race track and one tough group of ladies.
Roller derby has come to Utah County, and Happy Valley Derby Darlins team member Danica Levanger said the derby started small and is growing bigger.
“We’re all just kind of throwing ourselves into it with no clue, and it’s turned into a huge thing,” she said. “We have over 70 girls on the league now, and it’s still growing.”
Team member Danielle Mahoney said she enjoys many aspects of the sport.
“I’m addicted,” she said. “I love it. I love the workout. I love the girls. I love hitting people. It’s all awesome.”
Roller derby is a contact sport played by two teams roller skating around a track and scoring points by lapping the other team.
The Derby Darlins said they are always looking for new people, even those without any prior derby experience.
