SALT LAKE CITY -- The U.S. Figure Skating Championships begin Sunday in Omaha, Nebraska, and Utah is sending eight young skaters to the competition.

Skating coach Lisa Kriley said the skaters have spent months getting ready for the big event.

"They're polishing and getting ready and everything seems to be ready to go when it's time," she said.

11-year-old Anna Grace Davidson described her preparations: “Normally I’ll come in the morning and do like edges, and then I come in the afternoon a little bit and do my program, and then sometimes I’ll go at night and do off ice.”

12-year-old Kendrick Weston said his preparation increases when it’s time to compete.

“So if there’s a competition coming up then we practice my program more often and work a bit harder,” he said.

Each skater will perform a short and a long program that lasts between two and a half and four minutes.
