Frozen pipes burst at U of U library, causes evacuations

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY — Frozen pipes burst on the first floor of the University of Utah Marriott Library Thursday and caused evacuations.

The library was evacuated for about 45 minutes at approximately 10 a.m. The pipe was part of the sprinkler system, but the sprinklers did not go off.

A facilities management team is assessing the damage to formulate a repair plan.

There was no damage to the books, but a small area of carpet will need to be replaced, according to Jana Cunningham, a university communications specialist.
