PROVO, Utah — The former American Fork treasurer will spend 45 days in jail after she pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge in December.
Heidi Mitchell and her attorney put forward a motion asking for Mitchell’s time in jail to be reduced. Her lawyer said if Mitchell is jailed for that long she will lose her job, and thus the income she needs to repay the money she took. The motion was denied.
Mitchell was ordered to repay the nearly $80,000, plus interest, she stole from American Fork during the course of three years, according to court documents from 4th District Court in Provo. If she does not pay the restitution she could spend 15 years in prison.
