PROVO, Utah - Brigham Young University is playing host to the National Amateur Ballroom Dance Competition this week.
The students, some as young as nine years old, have come from across the country to show off their dance skills.
"It is really competitive," said Hannah. "If you do one little thing wrong, either the judge sees you and you're out, or they don't."
Alpine dancer Autumn Walker and her partner Jared Cary have been practicing for years, and all that work paid off as they won first place in the youth pre-championship Latin category.
"It's a dream come true, it is, because we've been working hard for this," Jared said.
BYU's ballroom dance program has been in place since the 1950s, and coaches say interest has sparked in the last few years thanks in part to dance competition shows like "So You Think You Can Dance."
