WELLSVILLE, Utah — A Wellsville man died Sunday night after he was run over by a trailer, according to a statement from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly before 5 p.m., 54-year-old Steven Speth was working on a semi-tractor in his front yard while his wife and daughter were attaching a utility trailer to a Dodge Durango nearby.

A 3-year-old child was seated in the back of the Durango and climbed into the driver’s seat, then shifted the vehicle out of park. The Durango was on a hill and began to roll.

Speth saw his wife and daughter trying to get into the vehicle to stop it and ran over to assist. It is not known if Speth slipped or fell, but he was run over by the trailer. The Durango and utility trailer rolled about half of a block before crashing into a parked truck.

Speth was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center in extremely critical condition. He died there at about 8 p.m.

No one else was injured.
