SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah National Guard underwent a change of command on Saturday.
Lt. Col. Joseph Green relinquished command to Lt. Col. Shahram Takmili. Green assumed command of the 142nd in June of 2011.
Green was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and he was also deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Green said Utah’s National Guard offers a great deal of language support.
“We speak over 40 different languages, so we coordinate with the different intelligence agencies throughout the United States to provide language services to them,” he said. “So we do that on a daily to a monthly basis.”
Takmili will command more than 400 soldiers based in Logan, Ogden, Draper and Salt Lake City.
