SALT LAKE CITY - A fundraiser was held for Canine Companions for Independence on Thursday.
The non-profit organization provides assistance dogs for people with disabilities, completely free of charge. The service dogs are trained to perform tasks like pulling a wheelchair, turning on lights, getting things out of the fridge and opening doors.
"Some of our people that have gotten them have said one of the best things is that when they drop their keys or drop your cell phone, the dog picks it up and puts it in your lap. And you can imagine if you had mobility issues how special that would be for you," said Linda Weiskopf with CCI.
A gourmet dinner and fundraiser was held for the organization on Thursday night. Attendees got to meet local human-canine teams and volunteers with puppies in the program.
