SALT LAKE CITY – The Sugar House Streetcar project is still causing controversy.

There was a demonstration Wednesday along 1100 East, where some residents and shop owners asked for the Salt Lake City Council to place the line elsewhere. Business owners worry the construction will make

“They advertise that the merchants and the residents want this and the purpose for today’s demonstration is to let them know that that is not true. We are calling out, shouting out to the council members today that are for it for their help,” said Eliza Jones, owner of Boxing is for Girls.

The other option is continuing the track along 2100 South to around 1700 East.

A two-year study found that most residents prefer the 1100 East path and Mayor Ralph Becker agrees with them. The city council is set to vote next Tuesday on which route to take.
