SALT LAKE CITY – Fire crews responded to a house fire Friday morning that investigators say may have been caused by children playing with matches.
It happened at 608 North, 800 West just after 9:00. Firefighters say they saw smoke and flames coming from the roof of the house when they arrived. They quickly got it under control.
Four people were in the home at the time. Two children told fire investigators they had been playing with matches.
“They said they had a fire in the couch, it quickly spread from that area up to the attic,” said Captain John Kartsone with the Salt Lake City fire department.
The house will be repaired. For now the family is working with the Red Cross on temporary housing.
