SALT LAKE CITY - A Salt Lake City couple remodeling their basement found something they never expected when they tore down the walls - human bones.

They called police, and it turns out finding human remains isn't as unusual an experience as you might think.

The man who found the bones was remodeling his basement when a bag fell out of the ceiling filled with bones. They could've been there for decades.

Dr. Todd Grey, Utah's Chief Medical Examiner, says every week or two, his office receives bones discovered somewhere in Utah. The most common kind is animal bones.

"The next probably most common category of skeletal material we get are ancient Native American remains," said Grey.

When they discover these types of remains, they turn them over to the State Antiques Department. The Department wants people to know if they do find bones, the best thing to do is leave them in place and call the police.
