If there is an emergency during the Ogden Marathon, runners and spectators can now text police for help.

Ogden City Police set up a text only number that will be active only on the day of the marathon, May 18. An officer will monitor the number and dispatch emergency crews if needed.

“We are giving the public one more way to communicate should they need assistance,” said Ryan Perkins, Battalion Chief for Ogden City Fire Department in a statement. “As always, dialing 9-1-1 is still the best option for emergency situations. But if spectators witness suspicious activity or require police intervention, anyone nearby can alert us by text of the situation.”

The emergency text number is 801-940-6530.
