WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – Simply Mac is holding its third annual e-waste recycle event this weekend.
They’re asking everyone to bring their old computers, printers, cell phones, televisions or any other electronics you need to get rid of. They’ll unload the electronics then take the waste to a certified facility and shred it, so no information on the devices can be stolen.
“About 5 percent of our landfill consists of e-waste. The real problem is that 5 percent accounts for about 70 percent of the toxic waste in the landfill. So, a lot of problem with the way we’re just throwing this stuff away. So we need to start changing our habits and recycle them properly,” said Tyler Dickman with Simply Mac.
Their goal is to get 300,00 pounds of e-waste, which is double what they got last year. And so far, they say they’re on track.
Electronics can be dropped off at the Maverik Center in West Valley City between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
