SALT LAKE CITY - A recent spike in burglaries near Liberty park has caused Salt Lake City police to worry.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is trying to get citizens to be more aware of what's happening in their neighborhood.

On Wednesday a small patrol of officers went to the Liberty Wells neighborhood with a mission to alert as many residents as possible about the situation and how to prevent it.

"We reminded people they need to make sure their garage doors are secure, that their property is secure, we are also looking for those that don't fit in." said Detective Andy Leonard of the Salt Lake City Police Department.

The SLCPD does patrols like this one at least every two weeks. The last one resulted in the arrest of a burglary suspect.

Police officials said there has been an increase in reported activity in the areas surrounding Liberty Park, and they are working to familiarize citizens with the phrase: "You see something, you say something."
