OREM, Utah --  Nearly 400 babies and their parents were in Orem Saturday for the Star Spangled Baby Contest.

The contest features children aging from newborns to 3.5 years old as they compete to participate in the America Freedom Festival’s Children’s Parade on June 29.

Babies from as far away as India and Norway participated in the contest. Winners were chosen based on a number of criteria, including costumes and patriotic themes.

Cassie Mortenson said she enjoyed the competition.

“It's awesome,” she said. “It’s just fun, fun activities and a fun opportunity for them to be patriotic and have a good time."

There were also a series of “firecracker awards” for categories like biggest eyes, cutest smile and best hair.
