WEST VALLEY CITY – A five car accident in West Valley City Monday morning left one person in serious condition.

The accident occurred between 2900 S. and 5600 W. around 8:45 a.m. Police said a driver drifted into oncoming traffic and hit another car. That car spun and caused a second accident. The first vehicle kept moving and hit another vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in serious condition. Other injuries were only minor, and Sgt. Jason Hauer, West Valley City Police Department, said they could have been worse without seat belts.

“The driver of the SUV particularly that took the brunt of the head-on collision there was saved due to the restraint devices,” he said.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
