Utah truckers compete for championship

Posted

SALT LAKE CITY — Hundreds of drivers competed Saturday in the Utah Truck Driving Championships.

The event has been in the works for six months, and it featured 171 drivers in nine classes of trucks. The drivers used 138 different pieces of equipment and represented 20 different companies. Drivers had to make it an entire year without a safety violation to compete in Saturday’s event.

Larry Luke, Chairperson of Utah Truck Driving Championship, said there were several different challenges for the drivers to face.

“We have six different problems on two different courses, so the drivers have to maneuver around and score the highest score to get as close to a piece of equipment or problem without actually hitting it,” he said.

The first place winners will advance to the national competition in August, which is being held in Salt Lake City.
