PINEVIEW RESERVOIR, Utah – Police said a man drowned while swimming in Pineview Reservoir Sunday afternoon, and rescue crews located the man's body moments before ending the search for the night.
Deputy Mark Horton, Weber County Sheriff’s Office, said a 26-year-old male drowned in the area of Cemetery Point at Pineview Reservoir.
Horton said the man was swimming with friends out to a buoy. When the man's friends saw him go under they tried to swim to him and offer help, but they were unable to reach the man.
"It was a hot day today, and exhaustion could have been a factor... went to cool down in the water," Horton said. "And they were swimming out to the buoy just behind me. Somewhere right around the buoy is where they got in trouble."
Police said the incident is being investigated as an accident. They said it appears the man was not wearing a life jacket.
Recovery crews located the man's body at about 9:30 p.m., not long after authorities announced the search was going to end for the night and resume in the morning.
