SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake Dream Team gathered outside of Utah Senator Orrin Hatch’s office Wednesday to ask the senator to champion immigration reform.
Hatch, R-Utah, was one of 82 senators who voted Tuesday to begin debate on a broad, bipartisan measured regarding immigration reform.
Angelica Rodriguez of the Salt Lake Dream Team said they hope Hatch will support immigration reforms that strengthen families. She said they will be holding a vigil in front of the senator’s offices from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each night until the Senate votes on immigration legislation.
"We are pleased that Senator Hatch voted to proceed with the debate yesterday, now is the time for him to live up to his faith and commitment to represent families in Utah and fully support the bill when it comes to a vote,” She said.
Hatch Spokeswoman Heather Barney said Hatch is grateful for the input from the Salt Lake Dream Team.
"The Salt Lake Dream Team has been very enthusiastic and has worked hard in amassing these letters, and the senator always appreciates hearing from his Utah constituents,” she said.
The group delivered about 600 letters to Hatch to show that many Utah families support immigration reform.
