SALT LAKE CITY – The parking lot of the old Deseret Industries building in Sugar House has been transformed into a community plaza.

The new Sugarmont Plaza, located at 2227 South Highland Drive, is designed to host summer events like food truck rallies, concerts, movie screenings and more.

The plaza held its grand opening this week, and the people behind the project said they’ve turned a sparse spot into an inviting location. Resident Amy Barry said she hopes people take advantage of the new space.

“We’ve provided some life to the area with the mural that is being painted outside and this part of the parking lot that we painted defines the public space, so that people can come and use it,” Barry said. “Hopefully food trucks keep coming and people come and sit out and hang out and play music and enjoy the spot.”

The lot is open to the public.
