Police searching for suspect who allegedly robbed restaurant, shot pursuer

SALT LAKE CITY – Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly shot a man while fleeing from the scene of a robbery.

The incident occurred at a restaurant at 1320 South Swaner Road (2200 West) Saturday night shortly before 9 p.m.

Police said the suspect robbed a restaurant, and as he was leaving an employee started chasing the suspect.

Police said another man who was in the parking lot saw what was happening and gave chase as well.The suspect turned and shot that man in the leg. The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Lt. Josh Scharman of the Salt Lake City Police Department said they are still searching for the suspect.

"The suspect is at large right now," he said. "He was last seen on foot, however they heard a vehicle from around the building so it's possible that he got into a vehicle and left."

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his early '20s. He was wearing a white jersey-style shirt with black lettering. Anyone with information about the suspect or the incident is encouraged to contact Salt Lake police.
