SANDY, Utah – A man was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife’s 85-year-old grandma.
Police said Kevin Cuillard walked into Arla Christensen’s bedroom on June 20 and beat her while also strangling her.
Cuillard’s wife told police he had a mental illness and was not taking his medications, she also said Cuillard was having psychotic episode.
Cuillard’s wife told police she couldn’t get into the room to stop her husband and was worried about her four children, so she ran out of the house to call police.
When they arrived at the home, located at 10164 South Bannor Hill Road (1985 East), police found Christensen dead. Cuillard was still at the home and was taken into custody.
Cuillard allegedly admitted to police the blood on his clothes belonged to “grandma.”
In an interview, Cuillard reportedly told police he did it to “make things better,” but investigators say he wouldn’t elaborate.
Cuillard will be in court Wednesday.
